School Partnerships

Wellspring partners with area high schools and colleges to have a trained victim advocate available on campus several hours each week to provide victim services. We also offer educational opportunities for students to learn more about healthy relationships, consent, and how to help someone who may be a victim of relationship and sexual abuse. Students who disclose to faculty or staff that they have been victimized or that they are concerned that their dating or sexual relationships may not be safe can be referred to the Wellspring victim advocate for services.

During the school year, we are present a few hours each week on campus for victim services at:

  • Shenendehowa High School
  • Saratoga Springs High School
  • Skidmore College

We are able to expand this service to other campuses in our community. Call us to get more information.

What protections are in place for students?

There are several laws that provide protections to students of all ages.

Title IX is a federal civil rights law that protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance (includes K-12 and college/university). It places responsibility on schools to address sexual harassment, sexual violence, or any gender based discrimination. It requires schools have and distribute a policy against sex discrimination; have a Title IX Coordinator; and have procedures for students to file complaints of sex discrimination and these policies must be made well known to the students. Colleges and Universities (but not K-12) are also subject to the Cleary Act, which is a federal law that aims to provide transparency around campus crime and statistics. For more details about the Cleary Act, visit the Cleary Center’s website.

In 2015, New York State passed the Enough is Enough law which requires all New York colleges and universities to implement uniform prevention and response policies and procedures related to sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.
